Africa World Airlines (AWA) has officially launched a new direct flight service between Accra, Ghana and Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso—an important milestone in the airline’s broader push into the Sahel region.
The inaugural flight was celebrated with a brief ceremony at Kotoka International Airport, attended by AWA’s Founder, Togbe Afede XIV, Minister for Roads and Highways Governs Kwame Agbodza, and Burkina Faso’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. David Kabre.
Speaking at the event, Togbe Afede XIV highlighted AWA’s strong track record:
“Our safety record is great. Our reliability is great. That’s the standard we aim to maintain—the level of service we look forward to offering our friends from Burkina Faso.”
He also expressed confidence that the route would serve as a strategic link, connecting AWA to broader destinations across the continent through Burkina Faso.
Addressing public concerns over ticket pricing—especially amid the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi—he assured that fare adjustments would be implemented accordingly.
Ambassador David Kabre thanked AWA for opening the route, emphasizing that it would enhance both diplomatic relations and economic cooperation between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza also praised the initiative, noting that the new service would improve travel convenience and reduce commuting stress. He commended AWA for its continued efforts in regional connectivity.
