Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has described the recent military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight public servants as a deep national tragedy, calling it a “grievous blow” to the country.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, and the entire nation.
“These individuals were more than public servants; they were patriots who dedicated their lives to Ghana. Their untimely death is not just a personal tragedy for their loved ones—it is a profound loss for the country they served with such dedication,” the statement read.
Among the deceased were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others, including three military officers. The helicopter, operated by the Ghana Armed Forces, went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region while en route to Obuasi on official duty.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie reaffirmed the Judiciary’s solidarity with the grieving nation:
“The Judiciary and Judicial Service of Ghana stand united with the President, the government, and every affected family as the country comes to terms with this painful loss.”
He urged Ghanaians to draw inspiration from the lives and service of those who perished, stressing the need for national unity in the face of the tragedy.
“May the Almighty God grant eternal rest to the departed and provide strength, comfort, and healing to all those impacted. Let their legacy—marked by courage, selflessness, and service—be a guiding light for us all.”
