President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to airlift 5,000 Ghanaian pilgrims to Mecca for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
The announcement was made during the sod-cutting ceremony for the Hajj Village on Friday, February 28. Speaking at the event, President Mahama emphasized the importance of adhering to the payment deadline and ensuring that all necessary arrangements are made well in advance.
“This year, we intend to airlift exactly 5,000 pilgrims to the Holy Land, and the task force has announced March 13 as the deadline for payment,” President Mahama stated.
He also disclosed that a pre-financing arrangement has been secured with a local bank to cover the costs of accommodation, transportation, and other essential services required for the pilgrimage.
In addition, the president directed the task force to strictly adhere to the 5,000-pilgrim limit to avoid the complications experienced in previous years.
“I’ve instructed the task force to cut off at exactly 5,000 and not exceed that number. We don’t want a repeat of past situations where late payments created challenges,” he added.
