Finance Ministry Promises Salary Resolution for Nurses

- Deputy Finance Minister assures salary arrears will be included in next budget
- Protesters demand nine to ten months’ unpaid wages
- 7,000 nurses and midwives affected nationwide
Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko has assured the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives that their outstanding salary arrears will be addressed in the upcoming national budget.
His assurance follows a protest staged on Thursday, October 2, 2025, during which members of the coalition demanded payment of nine to ten months’ salary arrears, affecting approximately 7,000 nurses and midwives.
The demonstrators marched from the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park to the Ministries of Finance and Health, where they submitted formal petitions.
Receiving the petition, Mr. Ampem acknowledged the financial challenges faced by the affected health workers and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving the matter.
“Your issue is being addressed. In the next month or so, when the Finance Minister presents the budget, the matter of unpaid health workers—including doctors and nurses—will be considered. You will receive your salaries,” he assured.
He also thanked the nurses and midwives for their dedication and apologised for the prolonged delay in payments.
Meanwhile, Stephen Kwadwo Takyiah, Convenor of the coalition, described the situation as unfair and unsustainable, warning that the continued delay is demoralising frontline health workers and negatively impacting healthcare delivery across the country.
