Abronye DC Granted GH¢50K Bail

Story Highlights
  • Abronye DC granted GH¢50,000 bail with one surety
  • No justification given by court for bail decision
  • Lawyer says Abronye’s health declined during custody

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, has been granted bail set at GH¢50,000 with one surety, following a court ruling that offered no explanation for the decision.

According to his lead counsel, Daniel Mantey Addo, Abronye’s health deteriorated while in police custody, and the news of his bail brought some relief to both the politician and his legal team.

Adom News’ William Nsiah, reporting from the Accra Circuit Court on Monday, September 15, noted that efforts are underway to fulfill the bail requirements for Abronye’s immediate release.

The court had initially remanded Abronye for one week on Friday, as prosecutors continued their investigation. His remand followed his arrest on September 8 and a court appearance on September 10, where he was charged with “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the public peace.”

His arrest and detention have stirred public debate, with some members of the NPP alleging political motivations behind the move.
