7 Lawra SHS Students Feared Dead in Boat Accident

Seven students from Lawra Senior High School are feared dead after a boat they were traveling in capsized on the Black Volta River near Dikpe, during an attempt to cross into Burkina Faso.

The tragedy unfolded during what began as a routine morning jogging exercise. Reports indicate that ten students had set out for their morning workout but spontaneously decided to cross the river into Burkina Faso. During the crossing, their boat capsized, throwing all ten students into the river.

Three students were rescued, while a search operation is ongoing for the remaining seven, whose fate is still unknown.

Local authorities and emergency teams have launched a search-and-rescue mission, with divers scouring the river for signs of the missing students.

Rescue efforts have been hampered by the Black Volta’s strong currents, heightening concerns that the missing students may have drowned.
