Story Highlights
  • $360M disbursed to Ghana under World Bank’s Second Resilient Recovery Development Policy (DPO2)
  • Brings total World Bank support to $660M under the recovery series
  • Focus on building resilient, inclusive, and shock-resistant economy

Ghana has received $360 million in concessional financing from the World Bank to support its economic recovery efforts, enhance fiscal stability, and advance critical reforms under its IMF-supported economic adjustment programme.

The funding—approved by the World Bank’s Executive Board on June 27—was disbursed this week to the Bank of Ghana.

This second disbursement, known as the Second Resilient Recovery Development Policy Financing (DPO2), brings total support under the World Bank’s Resilient Recovery series to $660 million, following a $300 million disbursement in 2024 (DPO1).

Provided through the International Development Association (IDA), the new funding aims to:

  • Promote fiscal discipline
  • Ensure financial sector stability
  • Improve governance in the energy sector
  • Strengthen social and climate resilience

According to the World Bank, this support is part of a broader effort to restore investor confidence, maintain macroeconomic stability, and build a resilient, inclusive economy capable of withstanding future shocks.

“It aims to restore investor confidence, accelerate economic growth, maintain macroeconomic stability, and create a more resilient and inclusive economy,” the World Bank noted.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson welcomed the disbursement, stating it reflects Ghana’s progress under the IMF programme. He emphasized that the reforms supported by the DPO series are already helping to restore fiscal discipline, boost investor confidence, and lay the foundation for sustained, inclusive growth.

With this new funding, Ghana is expected to fast-track reforms aimed at strengthening the private sector and enhancing the country’s ability to manage future economic shocks.
