COCOBOD contract, financial records under scrutiny

Story Highlights
  • Fifi Boafo refutes Dr. Randy Abbey’s claims of financial lapses
  • COCOBOD reportedly submitted all required documents
  • Claims about Parliament being unaware labeled false

Former Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Fifi Boafo, has rejected allegations made by the Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Randy Abbey, regarding financial mismanagement and undocumented contracts under the previous leadership.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Boafo described the accusations as unfounded and misleading.

Dr. Abbey had previously stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen that COCOBOD failed to submit its financial statements to the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) for six straight quarters. He further alleged that Parliament and the transitional team had not been informed about key financial commitments and contracts.

Responding to these claims, Mr. Boafo asserted that Dr. Abbey had not properly reviewed the official documents handed over to him.

“Perhaps the CEO would benefit more from reading his handing-over notes than spending time carrying chairs to farms,” he remarked pointedly.

He emphasized that all relevant details, including information on rollover contracts, were included in the transition documents provided to Dr. Abbey.

“If he had gone through the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC) handing-over notes, he wouldn’t be making such claims. And if he can’t find the documents, Wahab can assist him—they’re all there,” he added.

Boafo argued that these matters should have been resolved internally and not brought to the public domain.

“Had he read his notes thoroughly, we wouldn’t be having this discussion,” he concluded.
