Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has refuted claims that the GHC18 million secured through a recent deal with Adesa Production Limited (APL) originated from government funds.

The broadcasting partnership, unveiled last week in Accra ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, provides each Premier League club with GHC1 million before the season begins. The deal also includes weekly broadcasts of three live matches and a dedicated studio programme to enhance media coverage of the league.

In response to speculation that the funds were sourced from the state, Harrison Addo clarified during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show that no government money was involved.

“Government has not handed any money to the Football Association. Its role was simply to facilitate the environment needed for the partnership, and we appreciate that support,” he explained.

He acknowledged the backing of key officials—Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, and Sports Minister Kofi Adams—who supported the initiative by endorsing the favourable climate for private sector involvement.

“They all expressed support for the deal, and that has helped create the enabling environment for this and future partnerships. But to be clear, no direct financial contribution has been made by government to the GFA,” Harrison Addo stressed.

The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League is set to begin in mid-September.
