UDS Student Sentenced to Death

- UDS student Salifu Nurudeen sentenced to death for murder
- Victim, Wumpini Zakiu, was found with multiple stab wounds
- Incident linked to a love triangle involving Nurudeen’s ex-girlfriend
Salifu Nurudeen, a Computer Science student at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala campus, has been sentenced to death by the Tamale High Court for the murder of fellow student Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu.
The incident, which took place in September last year, was reportedly fueled by a romantic conflict. Nurudeen’s girlfriend, also a UDS student, had ended their relationship and started dating Wumpini.
On September 25, Wumpini was found dead with multiple stab wounds, and his mobile phone was missing. A police cybercrime investigation traced the victim’s phone to Nurudeen’s location, where it was discovered hidden under his bed.
Further investigation revealed that Nurudeen had used Wumpini’s phone to send misleading messages—one to the girlfriend, pretending to end the relationship, and another to a friend of the deceased.
He was arrested after being lured to Jubilee Park. Although he admitted to sending the messages, he denied committing the murder.
After examining the evidence, the Tamale High Court convicted Nurudeen of murder and sentenced him to death.
