Joshua Ansah, General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has urged workers to remain united and steadfast in their pursuit of fair wages, better working conditions, and stronger social protection.
Addressing the 14th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Maritime and Dockworkers Union (MDU) in Winneba, in the Central Region, Mr. Ansah emphasized the dangers of division within the labour movement, warning that it can lead to worker exploitation.
“In today’s difficult economic climate, it is more important than ever for workers to stand together in demanding fair treatment and protection,” he said.
“The TUC stands firmly with the Maritime and Dockworkers Union in its mission to safeguard the rights and wellbeing of its members.”
The conference also signaled the formal resolution of a five-year leadership dispute that had severely affected the MDU’s operations.
Union leaders acknowledged that the prolonged internal conflict had weakened the union’s ability to function effectively and stalled critical initiatives.
With the dispute now resolved, delegates at the conference are expected to elect new leadership to guide the union forward and restore its operational strength.
