Camidoh Explains Shift from Rap to Singing

- Camidoh says rap became too demanding as an independent artist
- Needed constant lyrical upgrades without label support
- Singing felt more natural and manageable creatively
Musician Camidoh has opened up about why he made the shift from rapping to singing, calling it a strategic and practical move shaped by the early challenges of his career.
Before gaining popularity with his smooth Afrobeats sound and soulful melodies, Camidoh began as a rapper known for his lyrical skill and high energy.
In an interview on Hitz FM, the Sugarcane hitmaker explained that staying competitive in the rap scene became increasingly difficult as an independent artist.
“Rap became too demanding,” he said. “I constantly had to read, research, and write just to keep up because the standards kept rising. It became a lot of work.”
He further explained that without a record label’s backing, juggling songwriting, production, and promotion alone was overwhelming. The intense demands of rap didn’t allow him the breathing room he needed as a solo artist.
Camidoh said that singing offered a more sustainable and expressive path—free from the constant pressure to top his previous verses.
The decision proved fruitful. His 2021 breakout hit Sugarcane catapulted him into the mainstream after earlier singles failed to gain wide traction.
Now, in 2025, Camidoh is gearing up for his next major project—a new EP titled Trustn God, scheduled for release on July 25.
