Black Queens Star Sets Sights on WAFCON Title

- Black Queens reach WAFCON quarterfinals for the first time in 9 years
- Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah says the team’s goal is to win the trophy
- Ghana beat Tanzania 4-1 in their final Group C match
Black Queens midfielder Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has declared that Ghana’s 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign will only be seen as a success if the team wins the ultimate prize.
The Black Queens secured a spot in the quarterfinals for the first time in nearly a decade after a dominant 4-1 victory over Tanzania in their final Group C match on Monday.
In an interview with Joy Sports, Boye-Hlorkah acknowledged the team’s progress but emphasized that anything less than winning the trophy falls short of their expectations.
“For me, this tournament will only be a success when we lift the trophy,” she said. “We’ve earned it, and we deserve recognition in African football.”
She added,
“I respect the continent, but I also want that respect in return. The only way to earn that is by showing up, performing, and proving who we are. The trophy is the only real takeaway.”
Ghana will meet Algeria in the quarterfinals on Saturday, July 19, at the Berkane Stadium, with kickoff set for 17:00 GMT.
