Accra’s Tudu area has been plagued by severe traffic congestion, leaving commuters frustrated as the Christmas season approaches. The gridlock, attributed to increased shopping activity and the proliferation of street vendors on major roads, has sparked urgent calls for action.
In an interview with Adom News, a driver expressed his exasperation, revealing that he had been stuck in traffic for over 45 minutes. He lamented the financial losses incurred due to wasted fuel and missed sales targets, emphasizing the need for the removal of street vendors from the roads.
Another driver acknowledged Tudu’s notorious reputation for traffic jams but described the current situation as unusually intense. He attributed this to the influx of people in town during the festive season, which has further slowed vehicular movement.
The convergence of holiday shoppers and street vendors has resulted in an overwhelming buildup of cars, leaving many drivers anxious and frustrated. As the holiday season intensifies, the challenges of managing street vendors and maintaining smooth traffic flow remain pressing.
Drivers are urging authorities to implement a balanced solution that addresses the needs of vendors while ensuring the free movement of vehicles in Accra’s busiest areas.
