The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, has launched an investigation into a fire that broke out early this morning, December 17, at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools.
The facility, which housed the ballot boxes for the Ablekuma North Constituency, was severely affected by the blaze. According to reports, the fire began at approximately 1:40 a.m. in the school’s library, where the ballot boxes were being stored.
The Ghana Police Service, in a statement issued later, assured the public that anyone found responsible for the fire will be apprehended and prosecuted. Authorities also urged residents to remain calm as investigations into the incident are underway.
In addition to the fire investigation, the Police reported progress in dealing with post-election disturbances across the country. A total of 132 suspects have been arrested in connection with these disturbances. Of these, 45 suspects have been remanded into custody, 71 have been granted police inquiry bail, and 16 are on court bail.
The Police emphasized their commitment to maintaining law and order, stating that due process will be followed in all ongoing cases.
