LeBron James Shines in Return as Lakers Defeat Grizzlies 116-100
- LeBron James returns, scores 18 points
- Lakers beat Grizzlies 116-100
- Anthony Davis adds 40 points
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James made a triumphant return to the court, scoring 18 points in a 116-100 win against the Memphis Grizzlies. James had missed the previous two games due to “personal reasons” and a sore foot, but showed little signs of rustiness as he finished with eight rebounds and eight assists in 34 minutes.
The 39-year-old’s return was a welcome boost for the Lakers, who had been uncertain about his availability until just 45 minutes before tip-off. Lakers coach JJ Redick had expressed doubts about James’ return on Friday, but the four-time NBA champion proved his fitness with an impressive display.
“I had an opportunity to take more days and get my mind, body and everything where I wanted it to be for tonight. And it worked out,” James said after the game.
James’ performance was complemented by a dominant display from Anthony Davis, who scored 40 points to help the Lakers secure a comfortable victory. Redick praised James’ decision to take time off, saying it was essential for the veteran player’s mental and physical well-being.
“Just hoping that he was getting a good mind and body reset,” Redick said. “I played 15 [seasons] and was emotionally, mentally, physically drained, fried. I put everything I had into this game. I had nothing left.”
Redick also acknowledged the immense pressure and toll that comes with sustained excellence at the highest level, drawing parallels with other sports greats like Tom Brady and Roger Federer.
“For guys like him and the Tom Bradys of the world, the Roger Federers of the world, it’s hard to comprehend having that level of sustained excellence for so long, because of the toll that it takes on all of you, not just your body,” Redick said.
In other NBA news, Luka Doncic recorded his 80th career triple-double as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Golden State Warriors 143-133. Doncic scored a season-high 45 points, with 13 assists and 11 rebounds.
