President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has once again pledged to prioritize the development of the Ashanti Region in his upcoming administration.
The reassurance came through Dr. Samuel Sarpong, the former Ashanti Regional Minister, who represented Mahama at the 2024 Akwasidae Festival at the Manhyia Palace on December 8.
Dr. Sarpong shared a message from Mahama, stating, “Today is the last Akwasidae Festival. This morning, Otumfuo’s son the incoming President called me and directed me to come and represent him here. Mr. Mahama sent us to extend his greatest gratitude to the King because it’s by his prayers he has emerged victorious in the elections.”
Dr. Sarpong also assured the gathering of Mahama’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling his promises for the region’s development. He added, “During his last visit to the Manhyia Palace, he received a book on the development of Asanteman, and he wants me to tell Otumfuo that he is fully committed to honouring his promise.”
Mahama’s last visit to the palace on December 3 focused on his party’s dedication to advancing the Ashanti Region, which is Ghana’s second most populous region. Mahama highlighted several key infrastructure projects undertaken by his government, such as the Kumasi International Airport, the Kejetia Market project, the Afari Military Hospital, and the Sewua Regional Hospital.
While the Electoral Commission (EC) has yet to officially declare the results of the 2024 general election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), conceded defeat based on his party’s internal tallies.
With the election results in his favor, Mahama is set to be sworn in as President on January 7, 2025.
