“Friday, November 8, is not a Public Holiday” – Ministry of Interior

The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that Friday, November 8, 2024, will not be a public holiday, despite the celebration of the 40th Farmers’ Day. This year’s event has been moved from the traditional first Friday of December to accommodate preparations for the upcoming general elections.

In a statement issued by the Ministry, officials clarified that while the Farmers’ Day celebration will take place on November 8, the statutory holiday for 2024 remains December 6, the originally scheduled date for the observance.

The rescheduling of Farmers’ Day is a temporary adjustment prompted by the need to avoid any overlap with election-related activities, which are set to take priority as the country prepares for the general elections later in the year.

“December 6 remains the statutory holiday for Farmers’ Day, despite the early celebration on November 8,” the Ministry stated, providing clarification on the status of the holiday for this year.

The change has generated some confusion, as the public had been accustomed to the December date for this long-standing annual event, which honors the contributions of farmers to the country’s economy and development.
