Police Bus Driver Arrested After Fatal Collision with Motorcyclist in Abeka

A police bus driver was apprehended on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, following an incident in Abeka that led to the death of a motorcyclist.

The tragic collision occurred in the early hours when the bus driver allegedly attempted to evade traffic by driving against the flow in the opposite lane. This reckless maneuver resulted in a fatal crash with the motorcyclist, compounding the already heavy traffic congestion on the stretch from Tesano to the Achimota overhead and toward Nsawam.

Felix Aryeetey, a fuel attendant at the nearby Shell station, provided details of the incident to Citi News. He confirmed that the motorcyclist died immediately upon impact.

“There is a passing-out ceremony at the police depot, so there’s heavy traffic. The police have taken the other lane, and they drive at top speed. Then I heard a crash; a police bus driver knocked down a motorbike rider, and the rider died on the spot,” Aryeetey said.

The accident has raised concerns about road safety and the conduct of police vehicles in traffic.
