Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has ramped up his campaign efforts in Accra, targeting the city’s vibrant market areas. Following a positive reception in the Volta and Oti Regions, Dr. Bawumia received an enthusiastic welcome from traders as he toured some of Accra’s busiest markets.
Dr. Bawumia kicked off his market visit at the Tuesday Market in Mamprobi, located in the Ablekuma South Constituency. He then proceeded to the Odododiodio Constituency, where he interacted with traders braving the rain in some of the capital’s most popular shopping areas.
In his signature energetic manner, Dr. Bawumia made stops at Makola Market, Okaishie, and Kantamanto Market. At each location, he was greeted with cheers and chants of his campaign slogan, “It is possible,” as traders gathered around him, many dancing and expressing their support.
Traders shared their gratitude for the NPP government’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which they credited for making education accessible for their children. This initiative has emerged as a key reason for their ongoing support for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP.
“We used to sell family heirlooms just to send one or two children to school, but with the NPP, that struggle is over—now, everyone goes to school for free. We want this to continue, so it’s Bawumia all the way,” stated one trader at Mamprobi’s Tuesday Market.
Another trader at Okaishie echoed these sentiments, saying, “It’s Bawumia and the NPP all the way. Two of my children couldn’t go to secondary school because I couldn’t afford it, even though they were brilliant students. But the two younger ones have gone to secondary school for free, and one is now at university.”
Across the markets, traders highlighted the significance of the Free SHS policy, praising Dr. Bawumia for his efforts as Vice President. Many expressed their belief that he is deserving of the opportunity to serve as President and implement his vision for the country.
