Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson has expressed her dissatisfaction with American rapper Meek Mill’s announcement of his return to Ghana this December. The rapper took to X to share his excitement about exploring the country’s historic slave castles during his second visit.
However, Forson responded with a critical view, questioning the sincerity of Mill’s interest in Ghana. She challenged the rapper’s proclaimed affection for the nation, stating that true admiration should be accompanied by an awareness of the pressing issues that affect its citizens.
“Y’all swear you love our country so much— but stay mute when it comes to speaking on any issues affecting it,” Forson wrote, highlighting her concerns about selective engagement with the country’s challenges.
In her remarks, she further emphasized, “Ghana should not be the place you just come to get away with ANYTHING because of your proximity to people in power.” This statement underscores Forson’s broader concerns about the involvement of international celebrities in Ghanaian affairs.
Meanwhile, Meek Mill has reiterated his intention to visit Ghana again, specifically to see the slave castles at Cape Coast and gain insight into the transatlantic slave trade. “I might come back to Ghana this winter … if so, I’m trying [to] wheelie all the way to the slave castles! I need to go see that!!!” he posted on X, marking his anticipation for the trip.
