Tarkwa Washing Bay Attendant Sentenced to 20 Years for Defiling Minor

A 30-year-old washing bay attendant, Richard Amissah, also known as IGP, has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labor for defiling a 14-year-old student in a bush in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.

Appearing before the Tarkwa Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu, Amissah pleaded guilty with an explanation. Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Dominic Appiah Kusi, revealed that the complainant, a hairdresser, resides at Booboobo with the victim, her daughter, while Amissah lives in Akoon.

On September 7, 2024, at 1800 hours, the complainant sent the victim to a Senior High School in Tarkwa to deliver provisions to her elder sister. However, Amissah intercepted the victim, asked for directions, and then dragged her to a nearby bush where he forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

Amissah repeated the offense in another bushy area in Akoon, holding the victim’s shoulder and pulling her there. The victim returned home in tears and reported her ordeal to her mother, who lodged a complaint at the Tarkwa Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

A Police medical report form was issued, and the victim received treatment and endorsement from a medical officer. Upon questioning, Amissah admitted to the offense and begged for forgiveness.

The court’s verdict reflects the severity of Amissah’s crimes, ensuring justice for the young victim and her family.
