Gomoa Buduburam Disaster: 554 Properties Destroyed, 3 Lives Lost

In a devastating incident at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region, a total of 554 houses and shops, along with nine vehicles, were destroyed last week due to a rock-blasting operation gone wrong. The tragedy unfolded when a contractor working on the Kasoa-Winneba highway triggered an explosion that resulted in three fatalities and left 47 others injured.

In the aftermath of the disaster, the contractor temporarily suspended operations as Central Regional Minister Justina Marigold Assan established a five-member committee tasked with compiling a comprehensive list of the destroyed properties and affected individuals.

On a visit to the site by Adom News on Wednesday, October 23, it was reported that the contractor has resumed work, this time under police protection to avert potential reprisal attacks from the community.

Gomoa East NADMO Director Robert Hackman confirmed to Adom News that the compiled list indicates 554 houses and shops and nine vehicles were impacted by the blast. He emphasized that NADMO is taking proactive steps to implement measures aimed at preventing similar disasters in the future.

Additionally, local police are conducting regular patrols at the construction site to maintain security and ensure no further incidents occur.
