CLOGSAG to Strike on November 4 Amid Salary Structure Disputes
- CLOGSAG declares nationwide strike in Ghana
- Strike begins Nov 4 over delayed salary structure
- Govt fails to meet Oct 31 deadline for salary agreement
The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced plans to initiate a nationwide strike due to the ongoing delay in establishing a salary structure for Civil and Local Government Service staff.
In a letter dated June 21, 2024, CLOGSAG had initially indicated that its members would strike in July 2024. However, after engaging in discussions with the government, the strike was suspended, and a communiqué was released.
CLOGSAG clarified that the suspension of the strike was contingent on the government’s commitment to finalize the salary structure by October 31, 2024, with implementation set for January 1, 2025. Despite numerous meetings since then, the government has not presented a definitive proposal.
“From the foregoing, it is evident that the 31st October 2024 deadline for finalization of a salary structure for the Civil Service and the Local Government Service would not be met,” the association stated.
In light of this, CLOGSAG announced that it would be left with no choice but to declare a nationwide strike starting Monday, November 4, 2024. The association’s statement, issued on Tuesday, October 22, emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the need for immediate action.
