Bawumia Commissions phase II of Tsatsadu Micro-Hydropower Plant

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commissioned Phase II of the Tsatsadu micro-hydropower generation plant, located at Alavanyo in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region. This phase adds 75 kilowatts (KW) of power to the existing 45 KW generated by Phase I, which was commissioned by President Akufo-Addo in December 2020.

The plant was constructed entirely by Ghanaian engineers from the Bui Power Authority (BPA) and largely funded through internally generated funds. Dr. Bawumia highlighted the project’s significance in diversifying Ghana’s energy mix and reducing reliance on oil and gas for electricity generation.

Dr. Bawumia also commissioned a Centre of Excellence, built by the BPA, to provide practical training for engineering students. He commended the BPA’s efforts in diversifying their energy generation mix, particularly with the recent completion of a 5 MW solar farm on the Bui Dam.

“As I have indicated in my Manifesto for the 2024 elections, I will work to introduce 2,000 MW of solar power into our energy mix. This will significantly reduce the cost of electricity, reduce the cost of living and operating a business. The solar panels will be manufactured here, further providing jobs for the youth,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

Kofi Dzamesi, CEO of the Bui Power Authority, revealed plans to construct additional micro-hydro facilities, including further development of the Tsatsadu waterfalls, to increase power supply to the national grid.

Vice President Bawumia Fulfills Promise to Hohoe EP Senior High School

In a separate ceremony, Vice President Bawumia fulfilled his promise to provide logistics to the Cadet Corps of Hohoe EP Senior High School. During the school’s 60th-anniversary celebrations in May 2023, Dr. Bawumia was impressed by the Cadet Corps’ drills and pledged to support them.

On Sunday, October 20, 2024, Dr. Bawumia handed over uniforms, boots, scarves, and other logistics to the Corps. He assured the students, “Last year I made a promise to you, and being a man of my word, I am here today to fulfill my promise. I have heard your request for a school bus, and God willing, next year when I am president, you will have a brand new school bus.”
