East Legon Accident Claims Two Young Lives, Bishop Salifu and Wife Arrested

A devastating car accident in East Legon last Saturday has claimed the lives of two 12-year-old girls, the police have confirmed. The victims, students of Cornerstone International Academy, were trapped inside a Honda Acura vehicle that caught fire after being rear-ended by a white Jaguar.

The Jaguar, registered as GN 7801-20, was driven by the 16-year-old son of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako of Alive Chapel International. The Honda Acura, with registration number GR 2542-23, was driven by Joseph Ackah, who survived along with two other occupants.

According to police investigations, the accident occurred on Mensah Wood Street at East Legon when the Jaguar rammed into the Honda Acura. The impact caused both vehicles to hit a wooden electric pole, resulting in dropped wires sparking a fire.

Cornerstone International Academy has announced an early midterm break from Tuesday, October 15 to Friday, October 18, 2024, following the tragic incident. In a letter to parents, the school expressed condolences to the affected families.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the affected families. We wish those hospitalized a speedy recovery,” the school’s letter read.

Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako, were arrested on Tuesday in connection with their son’s involvement in the accident. They are currently assisting police investigations.

Police reports indicate that three occupants of the Honda Acura were rescued, with two treated and discharged, while one remains hospitalized. The 16-year-old suspect driver and his passenger were also rescued and are receiving medical attention.
