Former This Morning host Phillip Schofield has shared the sad news of his mother’s passing, following what he described as a “heartbreaking weekend.”
In an emotional Instagram story, Schofield expressed his deep affection, stating, “I’ll forever be proud and privileged she was my mum. I love you mum, forever.” He included several photographs of his mother, Pat, highlighting her adventurous spirit with a picture of her wing-walking, referring to her as “one of the oldest ever ladies” to attempt the feat.
Schofield revealed that his mother died on Monday afternoon, describing her as “calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified.” Reports indicate she was 88 years old at the time of her passing.
“After a heartbreaking weekend, my magnificent mum decided it was time to go to her beloved [husband] Brian,” he wrote. Schofield reflected on the final days spent with her, saying, “Over three days, we held her, loved her, hugged her and said everything that needed to be said.” He also extended his gratitude to the medical teams, referring to them as “my mum’s and our angels.”
This news follows Schofield’s recent appearance on Channel 5’s programme Cast Away, where he spoke candidly about his departure from ITV in 2023, which was marred by controversy surrounding his admission of an affair with a younger colleague. In the wake of these events, Schofield suggested that his career may be over and indicated that his time on Cast Away could be his final television appearance.
His father passed away in 2008.
