Nigerian Afrobeat artist Oxlade has shared that he feels a greater sense of love and support from Ghana than from his own country. This sentiment played a significant role in his decision to collaborate with Ghanaian hip-hop icon Sarkodie on his debut album, “Oxlade from Africa.”
In a recent interview, Oxlade expressed his appreciation for the warm reception he has received from Ghanaian fans, highlighting it as a refreshing contrast to the challenges he encounters in Nigeria. He stated that the collaboration with Sarkodie symbolizes the admiration he holds for the Ghanaian music scene.
Additionally, Oxlade addressed his previous social media comments regarding “OGs” allegedly boycotting and blackmailing him. He clarified that his frustrations stem from individuals attempting to control his career path and exert undue influence over him.
“The issues I face sometimes arise from non-music-related reasons, such as being perceived as disrespectful or not greeting them properly,” he explained, opting not to name specific individuals or escalate the situation further.
“I hate the mindset of people trying to play god…When they feel like they can determine your trajectory. Sometimes, it’s because they feel I see them outside and I don’t greet them well,” Oxlade added.
