Cody Rhodes, the current undisputed WWE Champion, has expressed his desire for the iconic wrestling event WrestleMania to be held in the UK within the next five years. Known as the “American Nightmare,” Rhodes shared his hopes during an interview with BBC 5Live, stating, “If I’m aiming, it would be cool to get it [in the UK] in the next five years.”
Traditionally hosted in the United States, WrestleMania spans two nights between mid-March and mid-April, making it the longest-running event in professional wrestling history. Rhodes highlighted the potential for large venues in the UK, remarking, “There’s some really big venues over here that could host a WrestleMania. I think American fans would jump at the chance to come to a WrestleMania [overseas]; whether that be in Manchester or London, I think they’d go nuts for it.”
His comments come on the heels of 16-time WWE world champion John Cena’s discussions about the feasibility of hosting the event outside the US. Additionally, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has engaged in conversations with WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque earlier this year regarding the potential for an international WrestleMania.
Rhodes added, “When the greatest of all time, as we like to call John [Cena], goes out there and says it, it almost wills itself into existence. I’m very much looking forward to watching that situation unfold.”
The son of wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes, Cody secured his first undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40 in April, defeating Roman Reigns in a star-studded main event featuring icons like Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson and The Undertaker. After leaving WWE in 2016 to compete on the independent circuit and with All Elite Wrestling, Rhodes made a triumphant return to WWE, stating, “If you look at it now, it feels like it was destined to be, but I never looked at it that way.”
