Story Highlights
  • Bullgod warns Akufo-Addo, appointees of jail term
  • Calls for Nsawam Prison renovation
  • Backs anti-galamsey protests, nationwide strike

Talent manager Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, widely known as Bullgod, has spoken out regarding the recent detention of protesters opposing illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey. During a segment on UTV’s United Showbiz on October 5, 2024, Bullgod issued a stark warning to President Akufo-Addo and his appointees, suggesting they prepare for incarceration following their tenure in office, which ends on January 7, 2025.

Bullgod stated that it is imperative for the President and his associates to renovate the Nsawam Medium Security Prison in anticipation of their potential prosecution for alleged corruption and involvement in illegal mining activities. “Starting from Nana Akufo-Addo to all the presidential staffers, I am giving you a job and the job is very simple; you see the three months that are left, if you know what is good for you, go and renovate Nsawam. Go and renovate Nsawam because that is where you will spend the rest of your life,” Bullgod warned.

In addition to his comments about the political leaders, Bullgod condemned the recent detentions of those protesting against illegal mining, emphasizing the importance of allowing Ghanaians to demonstrate freely. “There is no better time than this,” he declared.

The outcry for the government to take decisive action against illegal mining has intensified in recent weeks. The arrest of several protesters two weeks ago has further escalated public pressure on the administration. On October 5, 2024, hundreds of Ghanaians concluded a three-day protest organized by the Citizens Coalition Against Illegal Mining.

Additionally, organized labor has threatened a nationwide strike if their demands are not met by October 10, 2024. They argue that the government’s lack of action on illegal mining has resulted in significant environmental degradation, adversely impacting the livelihoods of many communities across the country.
