The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has issued an apology for his previous assertion that Christians who do not pay tithe would not make heaven.

Speaking at the ongoing RCCG Youth Convention at the Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday, Adeboye acknowledged his mistake and clarified the biblical requirements for salvation.

“I apologize for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible,” Adeboye said. “What the Bible says is ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.'”

Adeboye illustrated his point using a scientific analogy, highlighting the complexity of truth. “It is possible to be right and wrong, just like light travels both in straight lines and in waves,” he explained.

The renowned pastor emphasized that tithing should be a personal choice, rather than a strict requirement. “Ten per cent should be for beginners,” he said, promising to share more insights on the topic soon.

Adeboye shared an inspiring testimony of a businessman who pledged 90% of his company’s earnings to God, resulting in remarkable success. The company grew from a $500 investment to a $50 million turnover in just five years.

Adeboye revealed that this testimony encouraged him to increase his own tithe beyond the traditional 10%. “But I’ve not reached 90% yet,” he admitted.
