A heated online exchange has erupted between Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale and digital influencer Kalyjay over the latter’s advocacy for a protest against illegal mining (Galamsey) and the release of Democracy Hub protesters.
Kalyjay, an award-winning influencer, has been actively leading the online protest, but faced backlash from Shatta Wale, who accused him of pushing a politically motivated agenda.
Responding to the claims, Kalyjay took to social media, saying, “Let me get something straight. So let’s say NDC have paid me (even though they haven’t paid me) to push a Galamsey agenda. Are you saying you won’t fight for clean water for yourself because I’ve been paid?”
Shatta Wale countered, criticizing Kalyjay’s “political tweets” and urging him to take action on the streets. “Please can you go and fight on the streets and let’s see and stop all this political tweets… I respect you waaa but stop pushing innocent youths here with this agenda. Twitter won’t solve Ghana’s problems if you yourself don’t go out on the streets and do what you have been typing as an example for us all to see… Please stop it. Politics is not entertainment. Thank you.”
The exchange escalated when an X user defended Kalyjay, prompting Shatta Wale to fire back, “Go with him on the streets and stop typing English here like a fool. People’s parents and women are behind bars, and he is here… was he part? Foolish talk.”
A fan disagreeing with Shatta Wale’s stance was also rebuffed, with the artist saying, “See another fool talking about celebrity. There is none in Ghana, so please shut your stinking mouth. Do you think we get royalties as it’s supposed to be if I were a celebrity? You see, the reason why I said many of you are brainwashed. Even your own house is the problem Edeh der you no solve, and you want to solve Galamsey.”
