Nana Romeo, a prominent radio host, has voiced strong criticism regarding the recent demonstrations organized by Democracy Hub, which protested the government’s handling of illegal mining. According to the Accra FM presenter, the protests are unjustified and unlikely to effect any change.
In a statement, Nana Romeo remarked, “The entire demonstration was a waste of time and energy; it won’t yield any results.” His remarks have sparked considerable discussion, as he assessed the motivations and execution of the protests.
He highlighted a critical misstep by the protest organizers, noting, “You went to the police to inform them of the protest, you gave them a route, and the police told you that the route you used was not right. Yet you insisted on taking that route.”
Nana Romeo stressed the importance of effective communication with authorities, pointing out the irony in the protesters’ demands for government accountability while ignoring established protocols. “The government is doing something you don’t think is right. You want to give orders to the government yet you do not want to receive orders,” he said.
His comments suggest a belief that the failure to adhere to required procedures undermines the protesters’ objectives. “You are doing a protest to call for a change in how things are done, but you don’t even know how things are done. The protest was good, but the people who did it are not fit for it,” he asserted.
