Ghanaian dancehall sensation Shatta Wale has unleashed his frustration on the youth for constantly asking him to share his thoughts on social media about the recent arrest of Democracy Hub protesters. The protests, which aimed to demand improved governance and accountability from leaders, resulted in the detention of multiple protesters advocating for citizens’ liberation.
In a series of audio messages posted on X, Shatta Wale expressed his desire to stay out of the conversation. “Many of the youth were unconcerned, kept silent, and accused me of being jealous of my colleagues whenever I criticized stakeholders in the entertainment industry,” he stated.
Shatta Wale, who recently released his album ‘SAFA’, feels the youth did not support him when he previously raised concerns about Ghana. He also believes individuals prioritizing personal gain over national well-being are misleading the youth.
The dancehall artist cautioned against including him in their social media campaign, emphasizing his “untouchable” status in the entertainment industry due to his outspoken nature. This contrasts with the protestors, whom he claims lack seriousness in their protests.
The Democracy Hub protests led to the arrest of multiple demonstrators, with charges including conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and breach of public peace. The protesters have been remanded and are set to reappear in court on October 8, 2024.
