Veteran comedian Ali Baba has opened up about his extraordinary journey to becoming a father of triplets at the age of 59, revealing the touching story behind his family’s unexpected expansion.
According to Ali Baba, his wife’s desire for a son, in addition to their two daughters, sparked the conversation about growing their family. Initially hesitant, he eventually agreed, leading to a surprising outcome.
“Madam had always wanted to have a son. She had two daughters and we talked about it,” Ali Baba recalled. “So, I told her I didn’t want to be doing school runs and joining Wizkid and Rema in parents and teachers WhatsApp group.”
However, his wife’s persistence and thoughtful perspective changed his mind. “By the way, she had said she wanted to adopt two or three children to take care of them. One day, she then said instead of adopting, let’s just have our own.”
Ali Baba expressed concerns about the economic implications, but his wife countered, “You said the economy is bad… Have you stopped paying house rent for people? Have you stopped paying school fees?” Highlighting their foundation, Purple Girl Foundation, which supports over 120 students, she emphasized, “If you think about it, the reason why God put you in this position might be more than taking care of yourself.”
Convinced, Ali Baba agreed to try for one child, but his wife suggested two, considering the potential for IVF failure. Unbeknownst to him, one of the eggs split into two, resulting in triplets.
“When it became three, she and the doctor knew that it had become three but they didn’t want to tell me,” Ali Baba chuckled. “So they were like ‘sometimes when we ask God for one million, he gives you two million. When God wants to bless you, you don’t know how he wants to bless you, he will just do.’”
Upon learning the news, Ali Baba thought it was an April Fools’ prank. “Me sef, I thought it was April Fools,” he laughed.
