Ghanaian musician and producer Raphael Camidoh has stressed the importance of investing heavily in quality music productions, particularly in video creation, to elevate the Ghanaian music industry.
In an interview with Melvin Da Enigma on Luv FM, Camidoh attributed the thriving Nigerian music industry to substantial investments in artistes, music videos, and marketing. He noted that Ghanaian investors, by contrast, tend to underinvest in local talent.
“The budget for shooting a music video in Nigeria is massive; it’s comparable to producing a Ghanaian film,” Camidoh emphasized, highlighting the disparity between the two industries.
Camidoh believes Nigerian investors recognize the potential returns from the music sector, a mindset lacking in Ghana. Despite growth in the local industry, he suggests emulating Nigeria’s approach to boost activities.
The musician’s remarks come as his hit song, “Sugarcane Remix,” surpasses 100 million views on YouTube – a record for Ghanaian artistes. This achievement underscores the benefits of investing in quality productions.
Reflecting on his early days, Camidoh credited Akon as an inspiration and shared his humble beginnings selling Sobolo, Pure Water, and Asanaa while honing his rap skills at Ola Girls SHS in the Volta region.
Camidoh expressed gratitude to his fans and Ghanaians for their support and offered advice to upcoming artistes: “To find a spot, you need to find that unique thing that nobody else can do.”
