Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed to break the corruption cycle perpetuated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government. Addressing supporters in Ayinase, Ellembelle Constituency, she emphasized the NDC’s commitment to harnessing its 8th position on the ballot paper to effect change.
During her three-day campaign tour of the Western Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians to seize the opportunity to break free from hunger, suffering, poverty, and high unemployment. She outlined the NDC’s plans, including the Women’s Development Bank, National Apprenticeship Programme, and the Big Push initiative aimed at job creation.
Recalling the NDC’s past achievements, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the high quality of education during their tenure, with all secondary school students attending school simultaneously and a certain academic calendar. In contrast, she noted that secondary education has become costly under the current government, with parents and guardians shouldering additional financial burdens.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized Ghana’s need for a reset, urging electorates to vote for John Dramani Mahama in the December 7, 2024, presidential election. She criticized the NPP government for running the country aground, defaulting on loan repayments, and necessitating Mahama’s experienced leadership to navigate Ghana out of the crisis.
Mahama’s track record, according to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, showcases his ability to deliver infrastructure projects, including schools, markets, hospitals, and roads across the country. She expressed confidence in his capacity to replicate these achievements.
The NDC’s campaign focuses on addressing the hardships faced by Ghanaians, with Prof. Opoku-Agyemang engaging with various communities to emphasize the party’s commitment to change. Her interactions with market women, drivers, and commuters highlighted concerns about social amenities and infrastructure.
In the Central Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reminded traders that the NDC built major modern markets nationwide, citing Kejetia and Kotokuraba markets as examples. She promised to complete the Anomabo market project initiated by the previous NDC government.
The NDC vice presidential candidate stressed the importance of truthfulness, assuring Ghanaians that her party will not make promises it cannot keep. She urged citizens to question the NPP about its unfulfilled promises.
