Gerald Group Partners with Blue Gold to Revitalize Bogoso and Prestea Mines

The Minerals Commission of Ghana has taken a significant step by appointing a six-member caretaker team to oversee operations at the FGR Bogoso and Prestea mines. This decision follows the government’s termination of the company’s mining leases on September 18, 2024, due to multiple breaches and non-compliance with regulatory requirements.

Lands Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor revealed that the previous operators were cautioned in August 2023 but failed to rectify the issues. The termination was made after extensive engagement with stakeholders and based on findings from reports by the Minerals Commission and a Ministerial Committee.

The appointed caretaker team will assist the regional manager of the Minerals Commission in managing the day-to-day affairs of the mine site. The team comprises senior officers, including Mr. Emmanuel Dadzie, Mr. Abdul Malik Nuhu Billa, and Mr. Samuel Mireku, along with representatives from the workers union.

However, Blue Gold Bogoso Prestea Limited, claiming to be the new operator, has contested the government’s decision, stating their operations are legal and vowing to challenge the termination notice.

The Minerals Commission’s Chief Executive Officer, Martin Ayisi, emphasized that the caretaker team will manage the mine until a new investor is found. The military will remain on site to secure the mine’s assets, working closely with the caretaker team.

The Bogoso-Prestea Mine, located about 6 km south of Bogoso, Ghana, is a significant gold mine in the region. The mine’s operations have been under scrutiny, leading to the government’s decision to terminate the leases.

The termination and appointment of a caretaker team demonstrate the government’s commitment to ensuring compliance with mining regulations and protecting the country’s mineral resources.

The Minerals Commission will oversee the mine’s operations, ensuring a smooth transition until a new investor is found. This move aims to safeguard the interests of stakeholders, including workers, communities, and the environment.

The appointment of the caretaker team marks a significant development in the management of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine, emphasizing the government’s resolve to uphold regulatory standards and promote responsible mining practices.
