The Ghana Police Service has announced its preparedness to uphold peace and security during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) protest scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
This demonstration, planned to occur across all 16 regional capitals, aims to address the party’s concerns regarding alleged inaccuracies in the voter register managed by the Electoral Commission (EC).
In a press briefing held on Monday, September 16, 2024, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Police Public Affairs, assured the public of the police’s readiness to secure the event.
The NDC intends to present petitions at the EC’s regional offices and the national headquarters in Accra, voicing their dissatisfaction with what they claim are errors in the voter register ahead of the 2024 elections.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi reminded the NDC of its obligations under the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491), which governs public demonstrations. She reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring security, law, and order throughout the protest and beyond.
