Enough is Enough’ Demo: We Demand Free and Fair Elections – Asiedu Nketia

The NDC’s nationwide demonstrations, scheduled to take place across all 16 regions of Ghana, aim to pressure the EC to address concerns about the electoral process’s integrity. Asiedu Nketiah urged supporters to remain steadfast in their demands, stressing that transparent elections are crucial for the country’s democracy.

In his words, “We want nothing but transparent elections that will guarantee our right to choose our leaders. Without the right of self-determination, democracy is good as gone.” Asiedu Nketiah also highlighted the risks facing Ghana’s democracy, noting that every democracy is vulnerable to threats and tyranny.

However, he expressed optimism that the NDC’s efforts would prevail, citing the importance of democratic-minded citizens fighting for their rights. “Elections alone do not guarantee democracy; it is democratic-minded citizens who are ready to fight for them who can guarantee democracy.”

The NDC’s protests have sparked counter-demonstrations, with two civil society groups planning to march in Accra ¹. The protests are expected to draw significant attention, with increased security measures and potential traffic disruptions near EC offices.

Asiedu Nketiah’s call to action has resonated with supporters, who are eager to ensure the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process. The NDC’s demands for transparency and accountability have become a rallying cry for those seeking to protect Ghana’s democracy.

The Electoral Commission has faced criticism over its handling of voter registration, prompting concerns about the register’s credibility. The NDC’s push for a forensic audit aims to address these concerns and prevent potential electoral irregularities.

With Ghana’s December 7 elections looming, the stakes are high. The NDC’s protests and demands for transparency have highlighted the importance of safeguarding the country’s democratic processes. As tensions rise, all eyes are on the Electoral Commission and its response to the NDC’s demands.
