The Electoral Commission (EC) has appealed to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to engage in discussions to resolve issues regarding the 2024 Voters Register.
The EC stated that demonstrations are not the way to resolve electoral issues, emphasizing the need for dialogue.
The commission explained that it has repeatedly requested data from the NDC on discrepancies they claim to have identified in the voters’ register, but the party has not provided any.
At a press conference, a Deputy Commissioner of EC in charge of Operations urged the NDC to bring their concerns to the discussion table.
The EC assured the NDC that any issues raised would be thoroughly investigated within a week, but this requires data from the NDC.
The commission expressed confidence that dialogue would lead to a credible and robust voters’ register.
The EC called on former President John Mahama to encourage his party to engage in discussions with the commission.
The commission reiterated its commitment to delivering a transparent process and ensuring that all discrepancies in the register are addressed before the December 2024 General Elections.
The EC urged the public to trust them to deliver a credible register, as they did in 2020.
The commission emphasized that taking to the streets would only cause tensions and suspicions, and that the discussion table is the best place to resolve issues.
