Kofi Kinaata Quoted by Asantehene in Ghana Bar Association Conference Speech

Ghanaian highlife musician Kofi Kinaata was honored in a speech delivered by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association. During his address, the Asantehene cited the phrase “Obi nya way3” from Kinaata’s popular song ‘Susuka’ to highlight the importance of valuing Ghana.

The Asantehene emphasized that despite the country’s challenges, many other nations look up to Ghana, urging citizens to appreciate the depth of Kinaata’s lyrics. “I can think of many countries that look up to Ghana and wish they were just like us,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said. “Sometimes, listen to the wisdom of our musicians and reflect on a piece like Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Obi nya way3,’ which means ‘Someone wishes they were like you.’”

The Asantehene’s remarks received applause, reflecting the endorsement of Kinaata’s work and the broader message of national appreciation.

In response to the praise, Kofi Kinaata expressed his excitement on social media, sharing the Asantehene’s commendation with the caption, “Auntie Ama eeiii… I have made it!! #KofiOOKofi.” The post garnered support from fellow musicians and fans, celebrating the recognition.
