Galamsey Excavators to be Returned if NPP Wins Election 2024 – NAPO

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice-presidential candidate, has made a significant pledge to small-scale miners in the Western Region.

Speaking to chiefs and residents of Prestea Huni Valley and Mpohor, Dr. Opoku Prempeh promised that a future NPP government would return all seized excavators confiscated during the crackdown on illegal mining.

This assurance comes in response to mounting calls for the government to impose a ban on small-scale mining to curb environmental damage caused by illegal mining activities.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized that the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has no intention of banning small-scale mining, but rather regulating the sector to prevent environmental harm.

He reassured mining communities that the NPP is committed to allowing small-scale miners to operate freely, provided their activities do not harm the environment or pollute water bodies.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh highlighted the importance of small-scale mining to the livelihoods of many families, stating that miners are able to earn a living and support their communities through their work.

He criticized the opposition NDC for their stance on small-scale mining, accusing them of making empty promises and threatening to harm miners.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh reiterated the NPP’s commitment to supporting small-scale miners, promising to return seized excavators and allow miners to operate peacefully.

He also emphasized the importance of responsible mining practices, noting that the NPP does not support mining activities that harm the environment or pollute water bodies.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh concluded by reassuring small-scale miners that a future NPP government would prioritize their needs and work to support the development of their communities.
