Ghanaian gospel singer Jak Alolome has disclosed that he turned down a substantial offer from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to support their campaign. Instead, he has released a campaign song for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the December 7 elections.
In an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show, Alolome explained that his decision was driven by his concern for the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians. “Last year, they held my hand and took me to the NPP camp and offered a huge amount of money to join their campaign team, but I declined because the economy is hard now. I’m a businessman, and that’s because the welfare of many people is my concern,” he stated.
Alolome criticized the NPP government, accusing them of exploiting Ghanaians for personal gain. He expressed his support for the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Mahama, and his vision for the country. In an earlier interview, Alolome clarified that his decision to compose the campaign song “JM Begye Yen” was not motivated by financial gain.
The singer compared the NDC regime to the current NPP administration, stating that things have become harder since the NPP assumed power. He expressed his preference for Mahama’s leadership, citing the economic difficulties faced by Ghanaians under the current government.
Alolome joins a list of musicians who have supported the NDC, including Nacee, Wayoosi, and Jewel Ackah. Conversely, musicians like Daddy Lumba, Omane Acheampong, and Diana Asamoah have composed songs for the NPP.
