Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), formally submitted the presidential nomination forms for Former President John Dramani Mahama on Monday afternoon.
Accompanied by NDC heavyweights including General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and Director of Elections Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Nketia delivered the forms to the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters at around 2 PM.
The submission was received by EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, who acknowledged the documents on behalf of the Commission.
Asiedu Nketia used the opportunity to voice the party’s serious concerns regarding the voters’ register, calling for an independent forensic audit of the EC’s IT systems to address what he described as serious credibility issues, including recent unauthorized voter transfers.
Nketia signaled a nationwide demonstration by the NDC to pressure the EC into ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process. He stressed that the party would actively campaign for electoral reforms and a credible register, warning of planned protests if their demands are not met.
The EC will review nomination papers from presidential candidates from September 9 to September 13, 2024. Mrs. Mensa assured that review teams are in place to evaluate the submissions and will provide timely feedback to the candidates.
