MTN Ghana, in partnership with Mobile Web Ghana, has launched a two-day GirlCode Hackathon aimed at empowering 100 girls from across the country.
The event seeks to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to address pressing community issues using technology, focusing on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The hackathon aims to bridge the gender gap in technology by encouraging young girls to think critically and develop innovative solutions.
Advisor Portfolio (Education) at MTN Ghana, Ebenezer Terkpeh, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting young people in digital skills.
He mentioned the MTN Skills Academy, a platform offering free digital training and career development opportunities.
The platform provides courses ranging from basic to advanced levels, enabling participants to acquire valuable skills and pursue careers in the technology industry.
Through the GirlCode Hackathon, MTN aims to create a cohort of skilled individuals who can contribute to the digital economy.
After completing their courses, participants will be linked with industry players and employment platforms.
Terkpeh encouraged young people to take advantage of the MTN Skills Academy, emphasizing the platform’s accessibility and the quality of the courses offered in partnership with Coursera.
Florence Toffa, Director of Mobile Web Ghana, encouraged young girls to explore the exciting possibilities of technology and its potential to transform careers.
She highlighted the rapid evolution of technologies like artificial intelligence and their impact on how tasks are accomplished.
