PMMC to Promote Ghanaian Jewellery on International Market

The Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) is set to embark on a campaign to promote Ghanaian jewellery on the international market.

According to Managing Director Nana Akwasi Awuah, the government’s focus on value addition and Ghana’s strategic location as the home of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat present significant opportunities for Ghanaian jewellers to expand their reach.

Awuah revealed that PMMC has been actively engaging with the Jewellers Association to ensure their full participation in the initiative.

He highlighted Ghana’s leading position in Africa’s gold production and the government’s efforts to promote value addition since 2017.

To maintain the quality and authenticity of Ghanaian jewellery, PMMC Jewellery has developed internal responsible sourcing guidelines and is working on implementing a hallmarking system to certify jewellery produced by local jewellers.

This certification will enable Ghanaian jewellers to meet international standards and compete in global markets.

The recently commissioned gold refinery plays a crucial role in Ghana’s jewellery industry, as it allows for the production of various types of gold, including rose gold, white gold, and 24-carat fine gold.

PMMC Jewellery has also invested in advanced technology, such as 3D design and improved finishing techniques, to ensure its handcrafted pieces meet international standards.

The Managing Director announced the relocation of the Spintex branch to the Spintex Marina Mall, citing customer feedback and the company’s growth as key factors.

The new location is expected to attract a wider customer base and provide easier access for residents in the surrounding areas.

Awuah urged Ghanaians to support local jewellery brands and avoid traveling abroad for similar products.

He emphasized that Ghana has the expertise and resources to produce high-quality jewellery that can compete on the global stage.
