O’Reilly SHS Murder Suspect Remanded for 14 Days

An 18-year-old student from O’Reilly Senior High School has been apprehended and charged with murder following a fatal stabbing incident involving a classmate on Monday, September 2, 2024.

After being detained, the suspect, known as Godwin, appeared in court for the first time on September 5, 2024. He is scheduled to return for further legal proceedings on September 19, 2024.

The victim, Edward Borketey Sackey, a student in General Arts, was stabbed after a heated argument with Godwin, a Visual Arts student. The dispute, which started over a comparison of their fathers’ wealth, escalated into violence.

Sackey was rushed to LEKMA Hospital by fellow students, but was unfortunately declared dead upon arrival. Social media has circulated images and videos of the attempts to aid Sackey and his unconscious state.

The incident has shocked both the school and the local community.

In response, the Ghana Education Service (GES) convened an urgent meeting on September 3, 2024, with the school’s administration, including Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Stephen Abamfo, and the LEKMA Municipal Director of Education, to discuss campus discipline and the ongoing investigation.
