The Nsawam Female Prisons in the Eastern Region has inaugurated a new day care center, Nsawam Prison Ladies (PRILAS) Day Care Centre.
The center was funded by Blue Skies Products Ghana Limited and Women Rediscovered Ghana, an interdenominational all-women fellowship and life group.
The center aims to educate and care for the babies of nursing mothers, female prison inmates, and female prison officers.
According to Assistant Director of Prisons, Mrs. Victoria Adzewodah, the center alleviates the suffering of nursing mothers in the complex.
Mrs. Adzewodah appealed to NGOs and benevolent organizations to support the prison’s diagnostic center project.
Alistair Djimatey, Head of Foundation and Corporate Affairs of Blue Skies Products Ghana Limited, said the project fits into their strategy of improving lives, especially of women and children.
Diana Asamoah Darko, President of Women Rediscovered Ghana, reiterated that the project aligns with their core values of giving to the poor and remembering those in prisons.
Deputy Director of Prisons, DDP Edward Fiifi Acquah, emphasized the importance of providing a supportive environment like the day care center for successful reintegration of nursing mothers.
The inauguration brought together female prisons officers, leadership, and representatives of other security agencies at Nsawam.
The Nsawam Female Prison, established in 1973, is the biggest female prison in the country, providing safe custody, welfare, and reformation for female inmates.
