The Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, has announced that the new cocoa crop season price will be revealed on September 11th.

Mr. Boahen Aidoo made this declaration while addressing farmer associations from the 70 cocoa-growing districts across the country in Kumasi on Friday, September 6th, 2024.

He explained that the opening of the new season was delayed due to the President’s travel schedule, which made it impossible to meet the initial target date of September 1st.

The Ghana Cocoa Board had sent a letter to the President requesting him to open the new season on September 1st, but unfortunately, the President’s existing schedule did not permit this.

The President is currently out of the country and is expected to return this weekend, after which the new cocoa price will be announced on Tuesday, September 11th.

Mr. Boahen Aidoo assured the farmers that the new price will be satisfactory to them, and urged them to have confidence in the management of the Ghana Cocoa Board.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to representing the interests of cocoa farmers and ensuring their well-being.

However, Mr. Boahen Aidoo also called on the government to intensify its efforts in combating illegal mining, also known as Galamsey.

The illegal mining activities continue to pose a significant threat to the Ghanaian cocoa sector, and urgent action is needed to address this issue.

Announcing the new cocoa price on September 11th, the government aims to provide a boost to cocoa farmers and support the growth of the sector.
